On 8 December, IJRS held its third Regular Discussion Session (#3) featuring an external speaker. In this session, IJRS engaged in a discussion with Prof. Heather Douglas, an academic from Melbourne Law School, University of Melbourne.

The discussion addressed a range of key issues related to the regulation and implementation of protection orders, including the characteristics and forms of domestic violence, power relations and the escalation of violence, as well as comparative regulatory frameworks and practices for victim protection across various jurisdictions, particularly Australia. The session also highlighted challenges in evidentiary processes, the role of law enforcement agencies, and the importance of balancing the need to protect victims with the protection of the human rights of individuals subject to protection orders.

Through this discussion, IJRS gained valuable comparative perspectives to enrich its analysis of the opportunities and challenges surrounding the regulation and implementation of protection orders in Indonesia, serving as a foundation for the development of more comprehensive policy recommendations.

Stay tuned for our next regular discussion session! For those interested in joining our future discussions, please contact Aisyah Assyifa or Alexander Tanri (https://ijrs.or.id/en/about-us/team/
