Ensuring Inclusive Protection for Vulnerable Groups

Together with a network of civil society organizations, we continue to advocate for the strengthening of policies and perspectives that prioritize vulnerable groups. This includes, but is not limited to, women, children, and persons with disabilities in addressing issues of sexual violence, preventing child marriage, and ensuring the provision of appropriate accommodations.

  • Protection against Sexual Violence for Women and Children.
  • Ensuring Access to Justice for Women and Children Victims of Sexual Violence.
  • Capacity Building for Lawyers on How to Handle Sexual Violence Crimes.
  • Ensuring that the judicial process is impartial and considers the rights of sexual violence victims.
  • Providing education on issues of protection and empowerment for women and children presented through interactive and creative activities.
  • We were involved in research related to perceptions and support for the regulation of sexual violence and child marriage issues. The survey results were presented by IJRS together with INFID in a Hearing Meeting (RDP) with the Legislative Body of the Indonesian House of Representatives, the President’s Staff Office, and the National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) as specific input in the discussion of the Draft Bill on Sexual Violence Crimes (RUU TPKS) related to sexual violence issues, which was eventually enacted into the Law on Sexual Violence Crimes (UU TPKS).

  • We are involved as members of the Justice Access Working Group (Pokja) at the Supreme Court. This has provided an opportunity for us to advocate for policy changes to ensure access to justice in law enforcement and to support the enactment of the Republic of Indonesia Law No. 12 of 2022 on Sexual Violence Crimes.

  • We are involved as members of the Justice Access Working Group (Pokja) at the Prosecutor’s Office. This has provided an opportunity for us to advocate for policy changes to ensure access to justice in law enforcement and to contribute to the development of the Attorney General’s Guideline No. 1 of 2021 on Access to Justice for Women and Children in Criminal Case Handling.

  • “We have conducted capacity-building for over 600 lawyers regarding Law No. 12 of 2022 on Sexual Violence Crimes, from the following organizations:
    1. Kongres Advokat Indonesia (KAI),
    2. Asosiasi Advokat Indonesia (AAI),
    3. PERADI Rumah Bersama Advokat (PERADI RBA),
    4. PERADI Suara Advokat Indonesia (PERADI SAI), dan
    5. DPN PERADI.”

  • We conducted research on sentencing disparity in court rulings in sexual violence cases. This study can serve as a reference for the Supreme Court to reconsider the imposition of sentences on sexual violence offenders, especially with the current Sexual Violence Crimes Law (UU TPKS).

  • Starting from the idea of creating a dissemination platform that is friendly and easily understandable by the public, SHElebrate was born, a space we created to provide education to the public through a mini festival format. This mini festival concept was first introduced in alignment with the 16 Days of Activism Against Violence Against Women (16 HAKTP). The theme of SHElebrate in 2024 is to provide education on women’s rights in the face of the law. SHElebrate was held on November 22-23, 2024, with over 200 attendees at the event.
