Getting to Know IJRS More Closely: From Research to Advocacy for Legal Development

On 18 May 2026, Marsha Maharani (Program Manager for Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) at IJRS), together with Gregorius Yoseph Laba (IJRS Researcher), had the opportunity to participate in a Legal Anthropology class at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Indonesia. During the session, both speakers shared insights into the work of IJRS as a non-governmental organization and its contributions to legal development in Indonesia.

Marsha shared IJRS’s experience in promoting a more gender-responsive judiciary through long-term assistance and collaboration with the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia. In this process, IJRS has been involved in various stages, ranging from research, advocacy, and policy development support to capacity strengthening and monitoring the implementation of Supreme Court Regulation (PERMA) No. 3 of 2017 concerning Guidelines for Adjudicating Cases Involving Women in Conflict with the Law.

Meanwhile, Gregorius discussed IJRS’s work related to the Victim Trust Fund (VTF) and the Endowment Fund for Victims as innovative financing mechanisms for the restoration of victims’ rights in criminal cases. Since 2023, following the enactment of Law No. 12 of 2022 on Sexual Violence Crimes, IJRS has conducted research on the implementation of the VTF in Indonesia, including its relevance in strengthening support and access to justice for victims within the criminal justice system.
