The High Prosecutor’s Office of the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, with a spirit of togetherness, conducted the socialization of Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP). This event aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding to the public regarding the updates in criminal law, which serves as a crucial foundation for the justice system in Indonesia. Together, we aim to create a society that is aware of the law and respects the values of justice.
The key takeaways from this material include several important changes in the new KUHP, such as the abolition of imprisonment sanctions, the introduction of new criminal penalties like community service and compensation for damages, as well as the introduction of new offenses. Additionally, some sanctions for specific criminal acts have been revised, and perhaps most notably, the new KUHP eliminates the distinction between crimes and violations. Overall, the new KUHP seeks to create a more modern, flexible criminal justice system focused on fairness, rehabilitation, and the protection of human rights, while also considering social developments.
