Judicial Integrity: Challenges and Opportunities for Strengthening Transparency and Public Trust in Asia

The Rule of Law Index is a global measurement developed by the World Justice Project to assess countries’ fulfillment of the rule of law criteria, both at the policy/regulatory level and at the implementation level. In the last three years, Indonesia’s score has been stagnant with no improvement at 0.53 (rank 68 out of 142 countries). This was announced at the World Justice Forum 2025 in Warsaw, Poland. In this event, our researcher (Muhammad Rizaldi) participated as a speaker in a panel discussion on “Strengthening Judicial Integrity in South East Asia”. Rizaldi shared how Indonesian CSO advocate for judicial transparency and accountability, including challenges and opportunities faced by actors in the justice system in the global era of decreasing democracy.
