IJRS and Utrecht University Sharing Session regarding Access to Justice in Indonesia

On February 3, 2025, IJRS, in collaboration with Utrecht University, held a Sharing Session regarding access to justice in Indonesia. The event took place at Novotel Cikini, Jakarta, and was attended by 35 master students of Criminology and academics from Utrecht University. This event aimed to serve as an interactive opportunity to discuss the current conditions of access to justice in Indonesia. This sharing session was also attended by representatives from Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) and Walhi Indonesia who discussed corruption and environmental crimes in Indonesia.

Key points regarding access to justice from the Sharing Session include:

  • The importance of addressing the low availability of legal assistance providers such as lawyers, legal aid institutions, and paralegals, as well as improving public understanding of legal services and processes
  • The significant challenges in access to justice still involve inequality within the legal system and numerous barriers at the local level.
  • The importance of collaboration among various stakeholders to create a more equitable and inclusive legal system.
