Bad Impact of Child Marriage at Different Ages and Child Marriage under the Law on Sexual Violence Crimes

In order to celebrate National Children’s Day, Aisyah Assyifa (IJRS Researcher) had the opportunity to be one of the speakers in a public discussion entitled “Bad Impact of Child Marriage at Different Ages and Child Marriage under the Law on Sexual Violence Crimes” organized by Koalisi Perempuan Indonesia and INFID on July 17, 2024.

In her presentation, Aisyah presented data on child marriage dispensation for the last 5 years in 2019-2023 which had an impact on the divorce rate.

The purpose of this activity itself is to:

  1. Open a space to share with the public about the progress of the implementation of Law 16 of 2019 concerning changes to article 7 regarding changes in the age limit for marriage after 5 years of being passed.
  2. Open a space for sharing with the public about the correlation of child marriage to the problem of fulfilling the right to sexual and reproductive health when the practice of child marriage continues.
  3. Open a space for public discussion on the development of strategies to prevent child marriage through sexual and reproductive health education for children.
  4. Strengthening commitment and synergy between parties and building advocacy synergies between the central government, local governments and civil society to prevent child marriage and achieve SDG’s goal 5 (five).
